Theresa Ann (Barnes) Evans, age 59, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on Thursday, January 18, 2018. Terri was born in Foosland, IL on May 11, 1958 to Michael and Betty (Edmunds) Barnes. She grew up in the Huron, Ohio area, and graduated from EHOVE High School in Milan, Ohio. She joined the Ohio National Guard soon after and fell in love with the Army in Basic Training and soon after graduation enlisted in the Regular Army. She received Advanced Individual Training as a Welder and Machinist. She met her husband, Wayne Evans, at Ft Bliss, Texas and they were married in Las Cruces, NM on June 5, 1981. She held many positions of authority and responsibility, the greatest and most fulfilling for her was that of Drill Sergeant, where she excelled at molding young people into proud, professional American Soldiers ready to answer any call. She and Wayne retired from the Army in 1992 and moved to their home outside Gatesville, Texas, where she enjoyed country life and her ever expanding menagerie of pets. She loved her pets like children and cared for many stray and sick animals over the years. Terri never met a stranger. She would help anyone in need, providing a shoulder to cry on, a caring ear to listen, a few dollars to make ends meet, or a swift kick in the rear to set you on the right path. You never had to worry about what Terri was thinking because you were about to hear it, up close and personal. She lamented not being born in Texas but embraced the title ‘Texan’ and liked to say “I got here as fast as I could”. She was preceded in death by her sister, Yvonne Marie “Bonnie” Barnes. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Wayne Evans and his son Jeremy Evans and wife Sheila; father, Michael Barnes; mother, Betty Barnes; brother, John Barnes and wife, Lisa; sisters, Genevieve “Jenny” Lawson, Susan Love, and Mary Ray; sisters-in-law, Karen Santillo, Gwen Runyon, and Janean Arisola . She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews whom she loved dearly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coryell County No Kill Shelter, ccprnokill.org or at (254)248-5002.
