Vera Bunting

Vera M. (Buckner) Powers Bunting, age 85 of Watauga, formerly of Waco passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Gatesville. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Reggie Blake officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, January 26th at the funeral home. Vera was born on January 2, 1933 in Purmela, Texas to the late Ernest and Alice Comer Buckner. She grew up in Purmela and graduated from Evant High School in 1951. She married John Powers in 1952 and they resided in Gatesville until moving to Waco, where they spent most of their married life. He preceded her in death in 2008. She later married Bill Bunting on August 8, 2015 and they resided in Watauga, near Ft. Worth. She worked for Dr. Shipp in Waco, as an office assistant, and at Hillcrest Baptist Hospital in Central Supply for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Beacon Hill Baptist Church in Waco. She enjoyed reading, traveling, dancing, R.V.’ing, and going to garage sales. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Elton Buckner and Monk Buckner. Vera is survived by her husband, Bill Bunting; daughters, Janice Giles, Joyce Villalpando and husband, David; sister, Alice Brown and husband, Butch; sister-in-law, Rita Buckner; step-daughter, Sherry Pichette and husband, Richard; a niece that she thought of as a grandchild, Sharla Chambers and husband, James, and their children, Madi and Alli; six grandchildren, Shelley Barber, Brandy Giles, Greg Giles, Melissa Arnold, Christi Wallace, and Scott Wallace; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and her cherished companion and dog, Sassy.
