J.L. "Sonny" Pruitt

J.L. “Sonny” Pruitt, age 71 of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his residence. Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at the Turnersville Cemetery. J.L. was born on July 3, 1938 in Turnersville to the late Zell and Sunshine Pruitt and the late Nola Pruitt. He was raised and attended school in Turnersville, graduating from Turnersville High School. He married Darneda Latham in 1960. She preceded him in death in 1996. Sonny was a barber on Post at Ft. Hood for 43 years. He loved fishing, gardening, coon hunting, and playing the guitar. His favorite pastimes were talking with Matthew in the late evenings, and attending Rachel’s volleyball games. J.L. is survived by his daughter, DeElva Edwards of Gatesville; his son, Curtis Pruitt of Gatesville; grandson, Matthew Edwards; granddaughter, Rachel Edwards; sisters, Bonnie Jean Medders of Burleson, Patsy Shirley and husband Harold of Crockett, Hazel Nichols of Gatesville, and Nola Featherston and husband Kim of Gatesville; brothers, Al “Bubby” Harris and wife Wanda of Georgetown and Kirby Pruitt and wife Nancy of Round Rock; and his father- in- law, Travis Latham. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that individuals make donations in Sonny’s memory to the charity of their choice.
