Bertis Lynn Ballard

Bertis Lynn Ballard, age 88, of Pearl, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018. Memorial services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, February 23, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior the memorial service. Private burial will be at Pearl Cemetery. Bertis was born on January 24, 1930 in Pearl, Texas to the late Vester Eugene Ballard and Frankie Belle Murrah Ballard. He grew up and attended school in Pearl. He was an all-around athlete and he excelled at basketball at Pearl High School. He married Nita Herrington on April 29, 1952. Bertis served in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged. He owned and operated Ballard’s Processing from 1976 to 1992. He was the meat market manager at A & P Grocery in Gatesville for 18 years. He was also employed at Ace Hardware and the Gatesville Housing Authority. Bertis was a member of the Gatesville Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Vesta Leonard. Bertis is survived by his wife, Nita Ballard; son, Mark Ballard and wife, Barbara; daughter, Tami Ballard; grandson, Bryan Ballard and wife, Kari; great-grandson, T.J. Ballard; nephew, Bill Leonard and wife, Rose; niece, Diane Goodrich and husband, David; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
