J. W. "Casey" Brown

J.W. “Casey” Brown, 94, of Gatesville, passed away in Katy on Thursday, November 26, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, November 29, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home with burial to follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service. Casey was born on November 27, 1914 in the Ewing Community of Coryell County to the late Jodie and Effie Williams Brown. He attended school in Ewing and The Grove. He was active in the plays that were presented at the end of school each year in Ewing. He was a farmer until WW II at which time he was drafted into the Army. He served with the 37th Combat Engineers for three and half years and was part of the invasion of Africa and Italy. Upon being discharged from the Army he worked in West Texas in the oil field for Guy Mabee. He married Jo Brown on June 25, 1956 in Lovington, New Mexico. They moved to Gatesville in 1960 to a farm west of Gatesville. He later retired from the farm and moved to Mound. He was active in helping with fundraisers for the Mound Volunteer Fire Department. Casey was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters and a brother. Casey is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jo Brown and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Academy or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
