Cherri Eleane Meek

Cherri Eleane Meek, age 77, of Gatesville, silently passed away, surrounded by her family, on December 12, 2009 at a Temple hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Cherri was born in Borger, TX on August 16, 1932 to the late Edward “Buddy” and Hazel Nix Langston. She grew up in Borger, graduating from Borger High School. As a young woman she worked at her aunt’s soda shop, where she met her future husband. She married Paul M. Meek on September 3, 1952 and became an Air Force wife. He preceded her in death on October 19, 2009. They moved to several Air force installations until his retirement in 1964. It was at this time that they moved to San Antonio where they lived until 1992. She worked as a Photo Finisher for Qualex for 25 years. From San Antonio they moved to Dallas and lived from 1992-94. It was in 1994 that they moved to Gatesville and she became active in many organizations locally, including the American Legion and D.A.V. Auxiliary, the Hill community Volunteers, and the Gatesville Senior Center. She was a kind and generous woman, often baking cookies and making gifts for the soldiers who were hospitalized. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren for whom she cared deeply. Cherri is survived by her children, Kimberly Meek Lombardi and husband Paul, and Toye Meek Grimes and husband Johnny; sisters, Janet Peterson and Lee Ann Langston; brother, Wayne Langston; grandchildren, Seth Jacob Kirby and wife Blake Dee Ann, and Airman Sean Cary Kirby; great grandchildren, Nathan Allen Grimes and Payton Riley Kirby. In Lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to her grandchildren’s education fund at Extraco Bank, or to the Gatesville Senior Center.
