Marjorie Maynard, 87, of Gatesville passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009. Funeral Services will be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Scott’s Funeral Home with visitation an hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Marjorie was born on June 1, 1922 in Milford, IL to the late William H. and Annmarie Johnson Sandhurst. Marjorie attended school in the Milford and the Hoopeston area graduating from Milford High School in 1940. Marge married G.N. Hodge in 1941 and he preceded her in death in 1987. Together they farmed corn and soy beans in the Lovejoy Township on the Hodge family farm. They also loved to travel and spent many winters in the Valley near Pharr, TX in their RV for some 20 years. While living in Hoopeston, IL area, Marge was active in the Bridge Club, Hubbard Trail Country Club and was active member of the Christian Bible Church in Cissna Park, IL where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. Marge was also an avid golfer playing for nearly 15 years. She also enjoyed making and modeling women’s hats. Every hat was a custom hat and she had customers from New Jersey to California. Marge was also a judge and a consultant for beauty pageants for over 25 years. After moving to Gatesville in 1989, she married Curtis Maynard and was active in a number of activities. Marge volunteered for the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary starting in 1997 and served on the board in numerous different roles including president and vice president. She is a member of the First Baptist Church where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and Joy Choir and served as the music librarian for a number of years. Marge also enjoyed the numerous choir tours she took with the Joy Choir. She was also was a member of the Gatesville RV Club and enjoyed organizing the club’s annual Christmas Party. In additional to being preceded in death by her husbands, she is also preceded in death by a son, Dan Hodge; two granddaughters, Denice Hodge and Melissa Hodge and a brother, Bill Sandhurst. Marge is survived by her son, Dean Hodge of Gatesville and two grandchildren Michelle Hodge and Brian Hodge;4 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
