Lavena M. Barker

Lavena M. Barker, age 88 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at a local hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Monday at Scott’s Funeral Home with Jim Hall officiating. Burial will be at Turnersville Cemetery. No visitation is scheduled. Lavena was born on April 9, 1921 in Hamilton County to the late Jasptha and Fannie Edmendson Berkley. She attended school in Ferry, TX. She married Jimmie Barker on April 25, 1936 in Hamilton, TX. He preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of the East Main Church of Christ in Gatesville. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one grandson, Audie Palmer, and one great granddaughter, Sara Palmer. She is survived by her daughter, Charlene Palmer and husband Gene; a son Lester Barker and wife Lelia; sisters, Mrs. Vernon Cullihar and Birdie Faye Sykes; a brother, J.T. Berkley; 3 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made in her honor to the East Main Church of Christ.
