Lloyd Brown, Sr.

Lloyd Brown Sr., age 84 of Gatesville, passed away on February 19, 2010 at a Temple hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville with Rev. Tom Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at the Gatesville City Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Mr. Brown was born on September 24, 1925 in Gatesville, TX to the late Johnny Brown, Jr. and Myrtle Perryman Brown. He served during WWII, in the US Navy, beginning in 1942, serving in Guadalcanal in the Pacific Theater. Following WWII he served briefly as a Shore Patrolman on the West Coast. He earned a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas A & M University. He married Elizabeth Adams on July 4, 1952 in Temple, TX. They lived all of their 57 years together in the Gatesville area. Mr. Brown was an educator, teaching at Temple Junior College, Central Texas College, and Texas State Technical Institute. He was a cattle and goat rancher/farmer. He was known for developing the Simmental Cattle Breed and for bringing Angora goats into Coryell County. He had many interests, but especially loved stargazing, reading and keeping up with current events. He was lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John Dayton Brown, III and a sister, Mary Sue Brown. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Brown of Gatesville; sons, John Brown of Gatesville, Lloyd Brown, Jr and wife Denise of Annapolis, MD, James Brown of Gatesville; daughter, Elizabeth Daniel and husband Raleigh of San Antonio and Melissa Brown of Snook, TX; 1 brother, Orcenith Fisher Brown; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Methodist Children’s Home or to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief.
