Doris M. Fairchild passed away on March 21, 2010 at the Coryell Memorial Hospital in Gatesville, Texas. She was born Doris McGilvray on December 11, 1914 to the parents C.H. McGilvray and Laura Elizabeth (Hilliar) McGilvray in Mt. Cam, Texas. Ms. Fairchild was the youngest of six children, two brothers and three other sisters. The McGilvrays had two generations living in Gatesville. She married Alvin L. Freeman and they moved to Rosebud, Texas in 1945. Her husband was Manager of Bellfalls Electric. They attended First Baptist church where she was active in the Women’s Missionary Union (WMU) and various other activities within the church. Ms. Freeman served as secretary in the Rosebud Primary School for a number of years. They had two children Charles H. Freeman and A.L. (Larry) Freeman. Her husband died in 1973 and she moved to Gatesville to live with her brother (Cam H. McGilvray) and sister (Elizabeth Cherry) in Gatesville. Here she met Ellis Fairchild on a church retreat and they were married on November 21, 1981. While living in Gatesville, she was a member of the First Baptist church and attended regularly until her health failed and had to be moved to the Oaks and eventually the Meadows at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She and Ellis enjoyed traveling throughout Texas “antiquing” and participating in Church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers and sisters, and her son Charles Freeman. In addition to her two sons, Doris has four grandchildren: Cameron Lawrence Freeman in Round Rock, Texas; Stuart Alan Freeman in Dallas, Texas, Laura Elizabeth Freeman in Austin, Texas; and Bradford Lawrence Freeman in Round Rock, Texas. She also by great grandchildren: Ella Grace and Alex McGilvray daughter and son of Cameron and Julie Freeman and Jake and Will Freeman sons of Brad Freeman. A private graveside memorial for family members will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday April 2, 2010 at the Gatesville City Cemetery.
