Sammie Neel

Mr. Sammie Neel, age 82 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at a local nursing center. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Neel was born on September 10, 1927 in Tahokia, TX to the late John Allen and Vivian McNeill Neel. He married Evelyn Warren in October 1947. She preceded him in death on August 13, 2008. Because of his job as Superintendent of Construction for bridges and dams with an international construction company, they lived in many places in the US and for several years in Peru. After retirement, they returned to Gatesville and settled in once again to life in the small, quiet town they both loved. They owned a farm near Turnersville where they raised Texas Longhorn cattle. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, an infant brother, and a brother, John A. Neel, Jr. Mr. Neel is survived by his sister, Bonnie Hodges of Gatesville; a sister-in-law, Dixie Neel; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, great-great-grand nieces and nephews, and many friends.
