Mrs. Billie Lou Starkey, 85, of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, May 29, 2010. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, May 31, 2010 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home. Billie Lou Starkey was born on February 5, 1925 to the late Bill Taylor and Bessie Berry Tomlinson. Billie married J.M. Starkey on March 15, 1946. To this union was born five children – James, Bennett, John, Juanita, and Carroll. She was a part of the first class to graduate from LVN School at Coryell Memorial Hospital. She worked for over 34 years in the nursing profession retiring from Coryell Memorial Hospital. She was a charter member of the Gatesville VFW and DAV Auxiliary serving as president for several years. She was an active member of the Coryell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary having volunteered more than 2000 hours since 2002. She was a member of the West Main Church of Christ for 47 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother, Richard Lee Tomlinson. She is survived by her children, James Starkey and wife Judy of Gatesville, Bennett Starkey and wife Deborah of Colorado springs, CO, John Starkey and wife Kim of Houston, Juanita Bohne and husband Michael of Gatesville, and Carroll Starkey and wife Mecca of Gatesville; 1 sister, Sallie Boyd and husband Don of Carlsbad, NM; 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to the DAV Auxiliary or to the West Main Church of Christ in Gatesville
