Richard Clyde Steele, age 62, of Flat, passed away on October 4, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be held Friday, October 8, 2010 at 1:00 PM at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Larry Rolison officiating. The family will receive visitors at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville from 11:00 AM till Noon prior to the service. Richard was born on July 1, 1948 in Comanche, Texas to Betty Jean and Clyde Steele. He grew up and attended school in Gustine and Comanche. He enlisted in the US Army on September 29, 1967 and was Honorably Discharged on November 17, 1969, after serving his country in the Vietnam War. After his discharge, he was a farmer, worked as a truck driver, drove a school bus, and owned a small engine repair business. He married Phyllis Bingle Steele in Belton on August 2, 2000. He loved to fish and hunt and enjoyed working with his goats. Richard also enjoyed selling fruit and vegetables at flea markets. He was preceded in death by his father, and his son, Ricky Steele. Mr. Steele is survived by his mother, Betty Jean Steele; his wife, Phyllis Steele of Flat; daughter, Christy Helm and husband Jaye of Ft. Worth; step-daugher, Tonya Klasinski; and one grandson, Max Helm of Ft. Worth.
