Mr. Gerald E. (Jerry) Jacobs, age 72, of Gatesville, passed away on October 16, 2010 at a Waco hospital. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Coryell Community Church with Rev. Walter Davidson and Rev. Bo Harvey officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 P.M. on Wednesday at Scott’s Funeral Home. Jerry was born on August 16, 1938 in Three Rivers, MI to Doris Hasbruk Jacobs and the late Myrl Jacobs. He graduated from LaPorte, Indiana High School in 1957. He served in the US Army from 1960-1964. He graduated from Wayland Baptist College with a BS in Criminal Justice. He graduated in 1978 from Backster School of Polygraph Examiners. He also graduated from the FBI Academy in 1981. He worked, for 27 years, in Municipal Law Enforcement beginning as a Patrolman in Amarillo, TX in 1965. He served as Chief of Police for Copperas Cove Police Department until his retirement in 1992. Jerry married Phyllis Harvey in Gatesville in 1997. He worked as a Polygraph Examiner for the State of Texas, and in Internal Affairs until 2003. Jerry was a golfer and loved to do woodworking in his shop. Jerry was a member of Coryell Community Church. Jerry is survived by his wife Phyllis Jacobs of Gatesville; his mother, Doris Jacobs of LaPorte, IN; a sister, Patricia Jones of LaPorte, IN; a brother, Lawrence Jacobs and wife Louann of LaPorte, IN; children, Raymond Jacobs of Nolanville and Myrl Jacobs of Ardmore, OK; step-children, Billy Sullivan of Charleston, W. Va and Kimberly Melin of Waxahachie; 7 grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren; mother in law, Hazel Harvey of Gatesville; and a hosts of nieces, nephews, and friends. IN lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to St. Judes Children’s Hospital or the Shriners Children’s Hospital
