The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 PM Monday at the funeral home. E. V. was born January 3, 1909 in Hamilton County, Texas. He was the oldest of 10 children born to Julius and Pearl Stanford Munday. He married Orene Smith on February 23, 1930. Vernon and his wife ran the Evant Laundry and Cleaners for 23 years, retiring in December of 1973. After retiring he helped at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Evant and later at Riley Funeral Home in Evant and Hamilton, he also helped at Funeral Homes in Gatesville. He was a farmer and rancher and loved to take care of his flowers, his garden and in later years his sons’ goats. Vernon was a volunteer fireman at Evant and he was Santa Claus to lots of children on Christmas Eve which he truly enjoyed. Vernon was a loving husband, father, and the world’s best granddad. He loved his family, his friends and neighbors. He loved nothing more than to get down in the floor and tickle his grandchildren. He delighted in being the first one to give all babies their first piece of peppermint candy. We all knew him as the ultimate caregiver. He enjoyed nothing more than helping someone if he could. One of the last things he said to us was what can I do to help. His children will always remember him wanting to know if he could help them. Vernon and his wife moved to Gatesville in 1998 to be near his son James. He was preceded in death by his wife; Orene, daughter-in-Law; Jeanne Munday, granddaughter; Kathy Stobaugh and 3 brothers and one sister. Survivors include children, James Munday, Merlin Munday and wife Jean, Valeria Donahoo (Sis) and husband Richard, Verenia Cooper and husband David, Waylan (Butch) Munday and wife Sue, 14 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, one brother and four sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
