Melda Jean Ross Thompson

Melda Jean Ross Thompson, age 71 of Gatesville, passed away on November 19, 2010. Graveside Services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Restland Cemetery with Deral McWhorter officiating. No set visitation is scheduled. Melda was born on March 28, 1939 in Claramoore, OK to the late Commodora Wade and Ida Stevens Ross. She was baptized in the 1st Baptist Church at Pryor, OK in 1948. She was raised and went to school in Tulsa. She married Felton Thompson on March 6, 1961. They raised three children, Barry Thompson of Lake Wood, CA, Gary Thompson of Garden Grove, CA and Debbie Thompson, deceased. She owned and operated a Ceramic Shop for many years. Several of her vases and art pieces have been sold and taken to several foreign countries. Melda was ¼ Cherokee Indian, her Great Great Great Grandfather was chief John Ross, that lead The Trail of Tears to Oklahoma. She is survived by her husband, Felton Thompson of Gatesville, TX; her sons, Barry and Gary; three brothers, Leroy Stevens and wife Wanda, CW Ross and wife Ann, and Kenneth Ross and wife Loni; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. So now as we come to say goodbye we are saying goodbye to a beautiful Indian Princess, and I the surviving Husband say to her “Darling you have gone first and I remain, but there is one thing that I ask of you, walk slowly down that long, long road for soon I will follow you. Goodbye my love, I will Love You Forever” Your loving husband Felton.
