Harriet Athleen Franks (Bud) Neuman, 97, of Arkansas formerly of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at Fountain Lake Health and Rehab in Hot Springs Arkansas under the care of Dirksen Hospice and her daughter Janet Neuman Floyd. Services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Monday, December 13, 2010 at The First United Methodist Church in Gatesville, Texas with Rev. Tom Beaty officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7 PM Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Harriet was born January 6, 1913 on the Franks farm near Gatesville, Texas to James Noel and Janetta McBean Powell Franks. The family moved to Gatesville when Harriet was quite young. She attended Gatesville public schools and then attended Mary Hardin Baylor College for Women in Belton, Texas. She then married Louis Carl Neuman on June 22, 1932 in Gatesville. They were married 27 years until his death on November 1, 1959. After being widowed, Harriet attended nurses training at schools near Gatesville, where she received her LVN degree as head of her class. She was then hired as a nurse at the local hospital, then as a nurse at the Gatesville State School for Boys where she retired at age 65. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she maintained her membership until her death. Harriet was a member of Fire Belles, an organization of fireman’s wives. Harriet enjoyed independent living for several years at Country Club Village in Hot Springs, AR, and then moved to Good Samaritan Greenwood Manor in Hot Springs Village in 2006 for assisted living. She especially cherished visits from her family members, and for many years made the annual Christmas visit to granddaughter Nan’s home in Fort Worth. Except for three bouts of pneumonia, she was healthy and enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, James Noel Franks, Carroll Nelson Franks, and Marvin Luther Franks; and one sister Nettie Jane Franks Davis. Harriet is survived by her daughter, Janet Neuman Floyd and husband Don of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas; son, Louis Carl Neuman, Jr. and wife Glenda of Arlington, Texas; sister, Annie Ruth Braziel and husband Bill of Gatesville, TX; grandchildren, Nan Akin and husband Bob of Ft. Worth, Texas; Louis Bo Neuman and wife Melissa of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; Paula Jan Draughn and husband Andy of Austin, Texas; one step grand daughter, Karen Floyd of Ft. Worth, Texas; one step grandson, Ronald Taylor and wife Judy of Plano, Texas; four great grandchildren, Allie Kathryn Akin and James Brooks Akin of Ft. Worth, Texas; Asher Neuman and Brynner Neuman of Mt. Pleasant, Texas; three nieces, Nancy Ashcraft and husband Bill of Gatesville, Texas; Janey Calhoun and husband Rory of Stafford, Virginia; Carol Riddle and husband Hugh of Huntington Beach, California; two nephews; Jimmy Franks of San Antonio, Texas; Steve Braziel and wife Carla of Saginaw, Texas; three great nieces and seven great nephews. Pallbearers will be Bob Akin, Jr, Brooks Akin, Bill Ashcraft, Andy Draughn, Louis Bo Neuman and Jimmy Scott. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First United Methodist Church in Gatesville, Texas.
