Anita Dean

Anita Dean, age 79 of Copperas Cove, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at her home.

Private family services will be held at Gatesville City Cemetery.  Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 12^th  at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Anita was born on April 17, 1941 in Vinita, Oklahoma to the late Melvin and Elizabeth Scuggins Nelson.  She grew up in Vinita, Oklahoma and graduated from Vinita High School.  She married Bobby Dean on August 6, 1959.  They settled in Copperas Cove after her husband’s military retirement, moving to Gatesville in 1982.  She worked for TDCJ as a correctional officer, retiring in the late 90’s and moved back to Copperas Cove.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby in 1994; son, Steve Dean in 1998; and sister, Marjorie Davis.

She is survived by her sons, Mark Dean and wife, Tammy of Copperas Cove, Doug Dean of Waco, Damon Dean of Gatesville; sister, Christine Mann of Bartlesville, OK; brother, Sam (Sonny) Nelson and wife, June of Kellyville, OK; eight grandchildren, Dustin Dean, Alexis Dean, Jennifer Hazlett, Taryn Dean, Todd Dean, John David Dean, Bobby Dean, Joseph Dean; and two great grandchildren; and numerous, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated the American Cancer Society for memorials.
