Barbara Terrell Miller

Barbara Jean Mayhew Terrell Miller passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on Friday, January 28, 2022, with her daughter at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 2, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville, with Rev. Stephen Schmidt and Grady Hill officiating.  Interment will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 1^st at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Barbara was born December 3, 1940 in the Pancake community of Coryell County, a place she called home for most of her life.  She was the daughter of the late Monroe and Gladys Jones Mayhew. After graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1959, she eloped in west Texas with her high school sweetheart, Jackie Terrell. Barbara and Jackie were married 37 years, sharing a love of travel, playing host out at the “Sunflower Bay Tank” in Pancake, and doting on their only daughter, Jacqueline.

After Jackie’s passing in 1996, Barbara married the love of her life, Tom S. Miller, in 1998. Together, they spent two decades playing evening crossword puzzles, hopping in the car for spontaneous trips, as small-business owners, and welcoming a growing number of grandchildren to Pancake. Tom preceded her in death in 2016.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gatesville.

Always the thrill-seeker, Barbara was a golfer, a gambler, a basketball player, a diehard Dallas Cowboys football and sports fan, a lover of fast cars, and a former drag racer — or so one of her many tall tales go.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Sammy Mayhew and Billy Mayhew.

Known as “Bebe” to her grandchildren and their friends who rolled through her hallways and golf carts throughout the years, she will be dearly missed by her daughter, Jacqueline Gohlke and husband, Randy; daughter, Margaret Deats and husband, Stephen; sons, Scott Miller and Todd Miller and wife, Jamie; grandchildren, Nikki Harris and husband Matt, Shauna Arnold and husband, Logan, Danielle Martin and husband, Justin, Steen Deats, Jake Deats, Isabelle Deats, Logan Miller, Jack Miller, William Miller, Reid Miller, and Luke Miller; and her beloved great-grandson, River Arnold.

In lieu of flowers, the family has designated memorials be made to the Jonesboro Cemetery Assn., 2415 CR 194, Jonesboro, TX 76538.
