Benjie Johnson

Benjie Johnson, age 55 of Gatesville, passed away on Wednesday, July 19, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville.  Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert.  Visitation with Benjie’s family will be from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 23^rd at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Benjamin Lee Johnson was born on December 7, 1967 in Bryan.  He grew up and went to school in Calvert and Bremond.  He married Marsha Wiley on December 9, 1989.  They moved to Louisiana and opened “Boss Hog’s” BBQ.   He later worked for Crane Plumbing and Coastal Transport, until moving to Gatesville in 1996, where they opened J & M’s Hill Country Bar-B-Q.  Benjie enjoyed playing poker, telling stories and loved fishing and hunting. 

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Mable Johnson; step-father, William (Ju-Ju) Bielamowicz; and a niece, Terri Lynn Greensage.

Benjie is survived by his wife, Marsha Johnson; father, Robert McCarver; mother, Karlan Bielamowicz; daughter, Heather Gribble and husband, Jed; son, Frank Johnson; grandchildren, Cutter Gribble, Breeann Gribble; siblings, Robert McCarver, Jr., Don McCarver, Bobbie Gonzales, Judy Pruitt, Julie Danko, Lisa Hopcus; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
