Betsy Bruton, age 77 of the Mound community, passed away peacefully beside her loving family, while holding her husband's hand on Monday, August 7, 2023. The morning was filled with tranquility, as dawn gazed upon God's creation. Betsy was soon ushered into the grace given to many before her.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Mike Urbantke officiating. The family will receive visitors following the services at the funeral home. Private family interment will be scheduled at a future date at Mound Cemetery.
Mary Elizabeth (Betsy) Bruton was born on November 18, 1945, to George and Mary Belt in Holly Springs, Arkansas. Soon, later with an addition of a younger sister, Georgia, and a younger brother, Randy. She graduated from Fayetteville High School in North Carolina, in 1963. Later that year, she relocated to Gatesville, where fate led her to meet her future husband at the local grocery store. As in Proverbs 10:22, "The blessing of the Lord maketh rich, and he adds no sorrow with it." Their union was blessed with the arrival of three beautiful children: Chandler Steven, Clayton Heath, and Whitney Layne. While her husband Ronnie Gayle pursued his carpentry work, Betsy lovingly nurtured and raised their three cherished children at home. As the years passed and her children reached adulthood, Betsy embarked on a new journey. She sought employment with the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles, a role she embraced from May 1, 1987, to April 30, 2010. Throughout her tenure, she not only built lifelong friendships, but also demonstrated a dedicated commitment to her community and the State of Texas. Betsy was a member of White Mound Baptist Church for many years, until later moving her membership to Live Oak Baptist Church. She lived a full and consequential life effectively caring for everyone she was introduced to, always giving the correct answer for the proper situation. She had the wisdom of Solemn, the strength of the Holy Spirit, and the dedication to family of Abraham. As her life ends, it's important to reflect on John 14:27, "I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid."
Romans 8:28, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose," and with that came a prospering family branched from the sister, brother, and three children. Betsy is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ronnie Bruton; children, Chad Bruton and wife, Marissa, Clay Bruton, Whitney Bruton and spouse, Ashley; sister, Georgia Lee Marshall; brother, Randy Belt and wife, Judy; grandchildren, Colton, Chance, Maycee, and River; and numerous devoted nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Mound Cemetery Assn., P.O. Box 177, Mound, TX 76558.
