Huey Veazey, age 69 of Gatesville, passed away on May 12, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15 at Scott’s Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service.
Billy Hugh Veazey, Jr., (AKA Huey) was born July 9, 1954, at Coryell Memorial Health in Gatesville, Texas to his parents Billy Hugh and Margaret Ruth Veazey. He had three siblings, Margo, Torrie and Justin. While growing up in a loving home, he attended school in Gatesville. Upon graduating from Gatesville high school in 1973, he moved to Austin, Texas and started a job in construction. In 1975, Huey began his career in HVAC with civil service at Fort Hood and retired in 2004. Also in 1975, he married Deb Sellers. They were married for ten years and had two children together, Kami and Zeb. As a family they enjoyed going to the lake together and camping. They invited family and friends all the time to join in on all the fun. Huey could slalom ski and gave both Kami and Zeb ski lessons, which they described as colorful instructions. He also was really good at playing tennis during his tennis era, drawing cartoon pictures and writing short poems. Huey loved Harley motorcycles, hot rods, fast cars, fishing and guitars.
After Huey retired, that is when his life really began! He loved visiting family and friends and “shooting the bull,” talking to anyone who wanted to waste a whole day. He loved watching drag races, working on old cars, and having jam sessions on his guitar with his buddies or a jam session all by himself. He loved music and would sing loud and proud to the radio or to whomever would listen to him, as he beat out the drums on his steering wheel. Huey was the life of the party and never met a stranger. He ran into people in Texas and out of state that he knew and they knew him, it didn’t matter. He also was a poet that didn’t know it and would ask his Mama to help him. They would try to out do each other putting together the best rhymes. Huey was loved by his family and his friends. He loved the Lord.
Huey was preceded in death by his parents, Billy Hugh and Margaret Ruth Veazey.
He is survived by his daughter, Kami Williams and husband, Curtis; son, Zeb Veazey and wife, Monica; grandchildren, Owen, Chett and Bralen; sisters, Margo Ferguson and Tori Rainwater; brother, Justin Veazey, and many nieces and nephews who he dearly loved.
This was written by Kami, Margo, and Torrie. When thinking about how to end this obituary, Margo said,
Huey would say, “just say- THE END.”
