Bobbie Gene Boyd

Bobbie Boyd, age 91 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. 

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Restland Cemetery, with Pastor Jeff Huckeby officiating. Bobbie’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Scott’s Funeral Home.

Bobbie Gene Boyd was born in Pearl, Texas on September 1, 1933 to the late James and Edna Boyd. He graduated from Gatesville High School in 1951 and went on to graduate from mortuary school, receiving his funeral director and embalmer licenses in 1957. He was then drafted into the United States Army, serving six years before returning to Harker Heights, Texas. In 1964, while living in Harker Heights, he met Mary “Jean” Bobbitt, and on January 14, 1965, the two were married. In 1966, Bobbie returned to his love of funeral directing at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville. He worked there for several years before moving to Glen Rose, Texas where he was the owner of Boyd Funeral Home from 1975 to 1979. During that time, he was also a member of the Glen Rose Masonic Lodge, No. 525 A.F. & A.M., as well as a member of the Fort Worth Shriners. He then worked at several other funeral homes before retiring and moving back to Gatesville. He was involved in many civic organizations, including the Exchange Club of Gatesville, where he served as President. He was also involved in the Gatesville Senior Center until health issues made it impossible for him to continue. 

Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife of 56 years, Jean. 

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Ibrahim and husband, Said, Stephanie Semmel and husband, Tracy, grandchildren, Sara Omar, Sami Ibrahim, Suzanne Ibrahim, Laith Ibrahim, and Travis Semmel; and two great grandsons. 

Bobbie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at both Rehab Living at the Meadows and Bluebonnet Hospice for the care they provided for their father.
