A man of his word. Bobby Lowery, age 85, of Gatesville passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 31, 2018 at Live Oak Baptist Church in Gatesville with burial following at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour prior to the service. Bobby was born on April 15, 1933 to the late John and Lessie McHargue Lowery in Mound, Texas. He graduated from Flat High School. While working as a carpenter in the Killeen/Temple area and farming in the Mound area, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served from 1957 to 1959. On June 10, 1960 he married Nelda Barton at Live Oak Baptist Church where they had met the previous year. Bobby was employed with Lam Construction before he started building homes with Charles C. Bruton in Central Texas. Bobby loved the construction business and continued even in his retirement part time. In his spare time, he loved hunting, fishing, raising cattle, and arrowhead digging. Bobby was a lifelong member of Live Oak Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. He will be remembered as a faithful husband, father, gramps and a friend. Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, J.C. Lowery, Estelle Pruitt, Corine Homan, James Lowery, Bonnie Goodrich, Juanita Luna, Winnie Faye Middleton, Joe Lowery, and Annette Bruton. Bobby is survived by his wife of 58 years, Nelda Lowery; children, Juanice Thompson and husband, Steve, Chipper Lowery and wife, Stacey; six grandchildren, Rachel Thompson Senter, Micah Thompson, Danielle Thompson, Kacey Lowery, Karley Lowery, Kael Lowery; two great grandchildren, Jaxton Thompson and Reid Senter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mound Cemetery Association and Live Oak Baptist Church.
