Bobby Joe Schmalriede

Bobby Schmalriede, age 83 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, July 8, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 12, 2024, at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Christopher Richmann officiating. The family will receive visitors at the Church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.

Bobby Joe Schmalriede was born on July 30, 1940 to the late Walter and Jose Holcomb Schmalriede in McGregor, Texas, where he grew up and attended school. He joined the United States Navy in 1958 and served for the next four years. In 1969, he moved to Fort Worth and worked as a plant manager for Hayes and Stolz Industrial Manufacturing Company until his retirement. He married Gearldine Williamson on October 25, 1969, and the couple made their home in Fort Worth, before moving to Gatesville in 2012 to be closer to their family. In his retirement, Bobby enjoyed watching old western movies and spending time with his grandchildren. 

 Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gearldine; brothers, Leo, Ray, and Billy Schmalriede; and sisters, Faye Hennig, Dorothy Symank, and Cleo Gohlke.

He is survived by his daughter, Liz Reinhardt and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Heather Rambeau and husband, Paul; Brandon Reinhardt and wife, Marlo; great grandchildren, Quade, Blayson, and Braylen Nichols, Beaux Bruce, and Hannah Reinhardt; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, or to St. John Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 10801 FM 929, Gatesville, TX 76528. 

Bobby’s family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff at Rehab Living at the Meadows for the excellent care he received during his stay.
