Bob Vidler, Sr. age 85 of Kingsland, formerly of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at his home in Kingsland.
Visitation with Bob’s family will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Restland Cemetery, with Rev. Tim Crosby officiating.
Bob was born on December 24, 1933 in Godley, Texas, to the late Alfred and Elizabeth Noble Vidler. He grew up in Bono, Texas, graduating from Cleburne High School. He married Lillian Callihan on June 22, 1956. They resided in Gatesville, where he worked for Wall’s Manufacturing for thirty years and TDCJ for 17 years.
Bob and his wife were members of Trinity Baptist Church, where he worked for the Lord by teaching children’s Sunday school for over 20 years, working with young men in Royal Ambassadors teaching them God’s word and how to bait a hook on many a fishing trip. He worked on whatever project his loving wife Lillian came up with and outwardly complained while inwardly enjoying every minute of it. He was always ready to work with his fellow man. If you asked to borrow a tool he most likely would come with it and do half the work. His gnarled and twisted fingers with callouses and scars of labor are a sign of a life well spent. After his wife preceded him in death on March 4, 2011, he later moved to Kingsland to be near his son’s family, where he was a member First Baptist Church.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Alfred Vidler.
He is survived by his son, Bobby Vidler, Jr. and wife, Pam of Kingsland; two grandchildren, Brandon Sweet, Lindsey Sweet and husband, Robert Delarosa; and three great-grandchildren, Sophia, Samuel and Olivia.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 W. Main, Gatesville, Texas 76528.
