Bonnie Hodges, age 87, of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at the funeral home.Bonnie was born on December 24, 1930 in Jonesboro to the late John and Vivian McNeill Neel. She attended school in Jonesboro where she loved playing high school basketball. Bonnie was known around the area for her bull riding ability during her teenage years. It was rumored that she could out ride all her male counterparts. After high school, she worked at Meek’s Café until she married George Hodges Jr. in 1946. Bonnie enjoyed golfing any chance that she could get. Bonnie waited till after she was 50 to really make life interesting. She went back to school and got her college degree, decided to run marathons, and also get her pilots license.She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Neel and Sammy Neel and Sammy’s wife, Evelyn.Bonnie is survived by a daughter, Patti Hodges Tatum and husband, Billy of Valley View, TX; sons, Ric Hodges and wife, Elaine of Gatesville, John Neel Hodges of Colorado, Dr. James Hodges and wife, Nancy of Waco, Paul Hodges and wife, Brenda of North Carolina, and Chuck Hodges and wife, Jackie of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dixie Neel; and numerous nieces and nephews.The Family wishes to thank the Staff at the Welcome Program, Meadows Skilled Nursing Facility, Kindred Hospice, and Dr. Tim Maynard and his nurse, Della Altum, for their years of kind compassionate care.Memorials may be made to Coryell Memorial Health Care Foundation, 1507 West Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
