Carral Kornegay, age 87 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Gateway Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Bragdon officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service, at the Church.
Carral Ann Kornegay was born December 23, 1936, in Gatesville, Texas to the late Homer Carrol Wittie and Lilly Pearl Honeycutt Wittie. She graduated from Gatesville High School before moving to west Texas. She married Bill Kornegay on February 26, 1979, and together they lived in both Odessa and Corpus Christi. Carral worked as a dispatcher for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years before retiring. She enjoyed traveling across the county and also loved to square dance. In the early 1980’s, she and Bill returned to Coryell County where Carral owned and operated a large greenhouse on their farm in the King community. She had a green thumb and loved her plants. Carral spent much of her time just watching the hummingbirds and cardinals at the farm. She loved to cook and always made the best food. She also cared for and loved her pug dog, probably more than anything else.
In 2000, Carral and Bill moved to Gatesville. She loved her home and often preferred to stay home over traveling. She enjoyed her daily adventures with Bill, as they would always drive the county roads looking for turkey, deer or whatever trouble they could get into. She also looked forward to her weekly hair appointments with Linda Lovelace. Carral was a member of Gateway Baptist Church and was said to be their oldest member.
Carral was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Kornegay (July 2021); and brother Hershel Wittie.
She is survived by her son Tommy Morgan and wife Barbara; step daughter, Marleen Kornegay; grandchildren, Shawn Edwards and wife, Tammy; Christy Edwards; Aaron Edwards; Tanya Garceau; Mark “Shorty” Edwards; Dean Barclay and wife, Amanda; Jami Srianekkul and husband, West; 18 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
