Charles Edward Melton

Charles Edward Melton, age 74 of Jonesboro, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, in Gatesville.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at Jonesboro Cemetery, with Pastor Jimmy Williamson officiating.  

Charles Edward Melton was born on September 26, 1950, in Gatesville to the late Norman Edward Melton and Mary Louise McCutchen. Charles attended Gatesville High School and played football.   He met and married Kathie Denice Jones on December 23, 1967.  

Charles worked for Coca Cola and then moved to the coast and worked for Dow Chemical until the early 1980’s.   Additionally, he worked for Brown and Root and drove a truck for many years.  In the late 80’s he got the calling to come back home to the Gatesville area.  He started roofing and continued doing so for as long as he possibly could.  

Charles enjoyed fishing, cooking something in the pit and drinking his Bud Light.  He was a grouchy old man who said what was on his mind.  You either loved him or you didn’t. He is finally with his true love once again.  

He is preceded in death by his wife Kathie; his parents, Norman and Mary Melton; In-laws, John and Lavetta Jones; sister, Nancy; brothers-in-law; Bud and James; and a grandson, Edward Melton.

Charles is survived by his two children, Michial Melton and Karlene Buster; grandchildren, Tyler, Brittany, Chase, Preston, Kelby, John-Michial, Brianna, Mathew, Courtney, Gerritt, Lance, and Faith; and many  precious great-grandchildren.
