Daryl Midgley, age 56 of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2024 at the Olin E. Teague Veteran’s Center in Temple.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Tabernacle of Praise with Rev. Jimmy Skiles officiating.
Daryl Lee Midgley was born on August 27, 1967 in Springfield, Ohio to William Sawyer and Louise Gale VanHorn. He grew up and attended school in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from Olympus High School in 1986. Prior to graduating, he joined the Utah National Guard and later joined the United States Army in May of 1990. He served in both Fort Hood and Korea. His enlistment ended in 1994 and Daryl moved back to Utah for the next few years. He then enlisted in the United States Navy in July of 1999, where he served as a mechanic at Everett Naval Base in Washington State. He served on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln. In August of 2007, he re-enlisted in the United States Army, serving in Desert Storm and Iraq. He married Elizabeth Dent in June of 2015 and the two made their home in Gatesville. He worked as both a truck driver and as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Daryl was a man of many hobbies and talents. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, Elizabeth, cruising the Caribbean. He also enjoyed decorating for Halloween, which was one of his favorite times of the year. He and Elizabeth attended the Tabernacle of Praise in Gatesville.
Daryl was preceded in death by his mother, Louise Gale VanHorn. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; children, Samantha Louise Midgley, Christopher Lee Midgley, and Daryl Rex Midgley Jr., Miranda Lynn McDonald, Richard Eugene McDonald; brother, Deriek W. Midgley and wife, Susan; nephew, Nickolas Midgley; seven grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
