Derry Jean Marris

Derry Jean Marris, age 86 of Gatesville, went to be with her heavenly family on August 16, 2019.  Services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 at the Funeral Home.

Derry was born on October 1, 1932 in Crawford, TX, to the late Ralph Caldwell and Berta Mae Fulp Caldwell.  She grew up and attended school in Crawford and Gatesville, graduating from Gatesville High School. Derry graduated early and attended Four C Business College. She was a secretary until she retired with 33 years of service to the State of Texas.  Derry loved teaching and working with children.  She enjoyed babysitting and worked at “Mother’s Day Out” for many years.  Derry loved cooking and spending time with her family.  She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Derry also loved attending all of her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren’s sporting and marching band events.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Marris Jr. in September of 1978; and her parents.

Derry is survived by her daughter, Karen Magee and husband Kerry; son, David Marris and wife Lee; grandchildren, ­­Barrett Magee and wife Whitney, Caleb Magee and wife Leah, Colin Magee, Jack Henry Marris, and Kate Marris; great-grandchildren, Aubrie and Cal Magee; sister, Phyllis Head and husband Perry; nieces and nephews, Lisa Carothers, Trina Chamberlain, Richard Gellasch, and Tara Jordan; and 10 great-nieces and nephews.
