Dixie Shelton Ellis Miller, age 86 of Gatesville, passed away on evening of May 5, 2021 in Waco. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 14, 2021 at Scott’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
Dixie was born on July 11, 1934 in the Seattle Community (Now Ft. Hood) to the late Richard Glass Shelton and Willie Rozell Ayres Shelton. She attended school in Gatesville, graduating at the age of 16. She went to work in McGregor for RocketDyne and later Hercules where rocket propellant was made. She worked as a contract negotiator for many years until she retired. Dixie liked to take trips; she pinned many destinations during her world travels. She enjoyed working in her yard and garden when she was able. But what really brought her joy was being able to cook for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, John Ellis and Garry Miller; step-daughter, Michele Long; sister, Doris Hanks; and brother, Richard Edward “Buster” Shelton.
Dixie is survived by her sons, John Ellis and wife, Marquitta, and Danny Ellis and wife, Ronda; grandchildren, John Alexander Ellis, Amy Ellis Thrower, Laurin Mason, and Jay and Jill Segrest; great-grandchildren, Bryson Ellis, Kenny Kerrigan, Jax Ellis, and Evan Thrower; brothers, Tommie Shelton and Billy Wayne Shelton; step-daughters, Cynthia Segrest and husband, John and Debby McLaughlin and husband, Rusty; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
