Don Eugene Ely

Don Ely, age 66 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, April 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his family.

Donald Eugene Ely was born on December 15, 1956 to the late Eugene Purvis Ely and Patricia Dorothy Hines in West Runton, Norfolk England.  He attended school in Blackwell, Texas, graduating in 1976.  From there, he became a brick mason, mastering the skill and working in the profession for more than 30 years.  He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Jarvis in 1998, eventually making their home in Gatesville.  Don also worked as a Correctional Officer for 12 years for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, retiring in December 2022.    

Don was an avid fisherman, and spending time on the water was said to be his passion.  He also enjoyed baseball, riding motorcycles, being outdoors, and spending time with his family.      

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Ely; daughters, Crissy Ely, Sarra Jarvis; son, Michael Ely; sister, Susan Monroe; brothers, Mark Ely, David Shaffer; grandchildren, Aubrey Ely, Kaytlynn Lacy, Skie Jarvis, Layne Dotson-Ely; and great-grandchildren, Aspen Confer, and Charmey Galloway.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.
