Edgar Lee Swader, age 80, of Gatesville, passed away peacefully Friday, November 27, 2020 at his residence in the comfort of his loving family.

Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Ater Cemetery, with Dr. David Crosby officiating. Viewing will be from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Scott’s Funeral Home.

Ed was born February 24, 1940 to the late Alvin and Pearl Needham Swader in Gilbert, Arizona. He married his high school sweetheart, Edna Fay Herring, on September 17, 1956 and was married 27 years, when she preceded him in death on September 10, 1983. Ed then married Anita Pena on February 14, 1986 and was married 28 years until she passed away on February 8, 2015.

Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1957 – 1962, where he was stationed at Fort Hood twice and spent time in Germany. He was employed at Deck Boat for 15 years followed by 18 years at H.E.B. Ed was well-loved in the community. He loved his morning trips for coffee and scratch-off tickets. He enjoyed tinkering and collecting trinkets. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be missed.

Ed is also preceded in death by his brother, Henry; sisters, Virgie, Martha and Linda.

Ed is survived by his children, Laura Foley and husband, John of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, James Swader of Gatesville, Patricia Cherepes of Jonesboro, Jessica Pierce and husband, Ronnie of Gatesville, Lisa Davis of Waco, Peter Michael Garcia of Conroe; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
