Ernest Charles Jones

Ernest C. “Sarge” Jones, age 87 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service.  Burial will follow at Levita Cemetery.  Sarge was born on November 20, 1931 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Ernest M. and Florence Hazzard Jones.  He grew up and attended school in Gatesville, Waco and Cleveland Texas.  After high school Sarge joined the U.S. Air Force.  He served for four years before his Honorable discharge.  After his service he went to work for En-Tex Gas in Houston, working there for 35 plus years before retiring.  He married Rosemary Dendy on July 5, 1969. They spent 42 years together before her passing in June 2012. He and Rosemary took many vacations together over the years.  Sarge was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan, and Philadelphia Philly’s fan.  He loved listening to baseball games on the radio.    Sarge was one who could have a game on TV and one on the radio and be able to tell you what was going on with both of them, as well as keep a conversation going.   Sarge was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Delores Dendy Jones; his parents; and brother, Bert Jones; step-mother, Beatrice Jones. Sarge is survived by his sons, Greg L. Jones and wife Donna of Donie, TX, Charles D. Jones of Milam, TX; daughter, Jennifer Carrigan of Spring, TX ; grandchildren, Chad, Zachary, and Jacob,; great-grandchildren, Christopher, and Camila Rose; brother, Curtis Jones of New Camey, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
