Floyd Leach, age 74, of Gatesville, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Hemmeline Cemetery. Floyd was born on April 15, 1944 in Sonora, CA, to the late Bassel D. Leach and Florence Ella Freeman. He grew up all over California, with his parents following work opportunities where they led them. After high school Floyd went to diesel mechanic school. He worked in the automotive industry in California for almost 20 years. Floyd joined the U.S. Army in 1971, serving until 1978, when he was honorably discharged for medical reasons. During his service Floyd was stationed at Ft. Lewis in Washington. After his honorable discharge, Floyd and his family stayed in Washington until Mt. St. Helen’s blew its top. Floyd moved to Gatesville in the beginning of 1985. While living in Gatesville, Floyd drove a truck and spent a short time working for the City of Gatesville. Floyd fully retired in 2003. He loved hunting and fishing in his spare time. Floyd was a very kind hearted soul, who loved helping others anyway he could. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Keith Leach, and Victor Humphery. Floyd is survived by his wife, Kay Leach; sons, Jack E. Baker, Jerry D. Baker, Andy Leach, Nole Yeates, John D. Yeates and Theron E. Leach; daughter, Debbie Williams; 5 sisters; and 7 brothers. Memorials may be made to Texas Wounded Warrior, PO BOX 130727, Tyler, TX 75713.
