George Holley, Sr., age 71, of Gatesville, passed away Sunday, March 4, 2018 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 9, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Robert Gilbert officiating. Visitation with the family will follow after services at the funeral home. George was born on Mary 18, 1946 in San Antonio to the late Lynn Elton and Issie Williamson Holley. As a military brat, he also lived in Panama and Fort Polk, Louisiana. When his father went to Korea, he lived in Hamilton with his mother and older brother. In 1957, his family moved to Killeen, where George attended school and graduated from Killeen High School. After graduation, he started working for the telephone company in Killeen. He later moved to Florida doing contract work for the phone company, until moving to Gatesville in 1973, where he made his home. He married Angie Tippit in 2006. He retired from Century Link in 2008. George was an advanced diver and a gun enthusiast. He loved to hunt (especially from a helicopter), diving, dancing, arrowhead digging, jeep riding and his time spent on Ft. Hood. He was a member of Mound Cowboy Church. He is survived by his wife, Angie Holley and her sons, B.J. Bates and wife, Charlie and Marshall Bates; George’s sons, Bill Holley and wife, Bobbie and Buddy Holley and significant other, Susan Nogues; brother, Lynn Holley, Jr.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. George is also survived by many friends, who he loved like family.
