Gordon Smith, age 92 of Gatesville, passed away on November 15, 2020. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Saturday November 28, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church in Gatesville.

Gordon was born in Hamilton, TX on January 4, 1928 to the late Alonzo and Ione Gordon Smith. He grew up in Hamilton, graduating from Hamilton High School, where he was quite the football star. After graduating high school, he attended Clifton Jr. College to play football and complete some of his college basics. While attending Clifton Jr. College he met the love of his life, Constance Gigstad, who was a cheerleader at the time. After graduating Clifton Jr. College, Gordon went to Denton where he graduated with a B.S. degree from North Texas State University. He then married Connie Gigstad. They had their first child Becky in 1949 and their second child Larry in 1951. Gordon was hired by GISD where he coached, taught school, driver’s education and drove a bus. He received his Master’s Degree from Baylor University. Gordon also sold life insurance and dabbled in real estate. His favorite past times were playing dominoes and golf, plus watching every sporting event on T.V.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Connie; children, Becky Berry, Larry Smith and wife, Christie; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly Pearce, Krista Moreland, April Gregg, Amanda Fritz and Adam Smith; 7 great-grandchildren, Macie Pearce, McKenzie Moreland, Kallyn Moreland, Connor Gregg, Caroline Gregg, Anna Fritz and Erica Fritz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or the First Presbyterian Church, 1110 E. Main St. Gatesville, TX 76528.
