H P Brookshire

H P Brookshire, age 91 of Gatesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, surrounded by his family. 

Celebration of Life services will be held by the family at a later date.

H P Brookshire was born on November 8, 1931 to the late Hulon and Iona Keener Brookshire of the Brown’s Creek Community, now part of Fort Hood.  He grew up and attended school in the Brown’s Creek Community, and Pidcoke, and later graduated from Gatesville High School.  In 1951, HP married Sandra Sue Adams, his high school sweetheart, and the two made their home in Gatesville.  He farmed and ranched all of his life, but also worked for the Texas National Guard.  H P later retired from civil service at Fort Hood after many dedicated years of service.  He was an avid reader of Western novels and was a collector of many things and is considered to be a “Brookshire Hoarder” by his family.

H P was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Adams; sister, Jean Anderson; and daughter, Patti Smith.

He is survived by daughters, Joy Brookshire, and Gay Comer and husband, Monte; son, Joe Brookshire and wife, Culli; brother, Billy Brookshire, and wife, Debbie; nephews, Weldon and Leslie Anderson; grandchildren, Jeff Smith and wife, Machaela, Misty Smith and husband, Patrick, Alan Comer and wife, Amy, Amanda Leigh Brookshire, TC Brookshire, and wife Ashlee; twelve great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
