Henry Mash, age 73 of Gatesville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at his home.
Memorial services with Pastor Bruce Cox officiating, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020 at the Mound Cowboy Church Tabernacle in Leon Junction, 2000 CR 321, Gatesville, Texas.
Henry was born to parents Everett and Henrietta Mash on June 11, 1946 in Thomasville, Georgia. He grew up and attended school in Cotton, Georgia. He entered the U.S. Army in 1964, served in the Vietnam War, and then retired with honors in 1985 after 21 years of service. In the early 1980s, he owned and operated the Gatesville Conoco Gas Station until he began working as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal service. He continued working for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2003. Never one to be idle, Henry left retirement to start his own business, H and K Locksmith, which he operated for many years, until illness forced him into retirement in 2017.
Henry was an upstanding American citizen, contributing 35 years of his life as a public servant. Additionally, he was a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He especially enjoyed morning cups of coffees with his friends at the local restaurants. He was known for his love of good conversation, reading, and politics. What his family will remember about him is his sense of humor, dependability, and giving nature.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Hooper Mash, in April of 2003.
He is survived by his daughters, Caroline Fischer and husband, Harold, Michelle Latham and husband, Randal, Teresa Wheeler and husband, Chuck, Kaitlin Marie Mash; sister, Annie Lee Martin; brothers, Wesley Mash, William Mash, Harrell Mash; seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed to the Gatesville Boys and Girls Club, 2533 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
