Jack Robert Johnson

Jack Robert Johnson, 87, of Gatesville, Texas, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled at a later date in Michigan.

Jack was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 6, 1937. He spent his childhood and most of his adult life in Michigan, where he retired. He graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1955. He started working at General Motors at age 19. He then married his high school sweetheart, Carol and started his family. Later in life (1975), he met and married Dorothy, and took over the raising of her young boys, loving them as his own. Jack retired from General Motors at age 49. He then bought a new motor home, moved to Florida and traveled throughout the U.S.A. with Dorothy. Jack loved playing golf and could not pass by a garage sale without stopping. Jack never met a stranger, making new friends wherever he went.

In 2004, Jack and his wife Dorothy moved to Gatesville, Texas. There he opened a resale shop. People loved to sit and visit with Jack at his shop. He loved people and getting his friends and family together. Jack was very social and always ready to go and it didn’t matter where. He loved life and he loved people.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Esther Grimes Johnson; and brothers, Kendall Johnson, J.D. Kimble and wife, Mary, and George Johnson.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy Johnson; children, Jack R. Johnson, Jr. and wife, Joann, Stephen Johnson and wife, Beth, Cheryl Johnson, John Watkins, and Raymond Watkins and wife, Sharon; brother, Walter (Walt) Johnson and wife, Patti; grandchildren, Kelly, Katelyn and husband, Brent, Jake, Nick, Danny, Curtis, and Jayme; and great grandchild, Boden, and one on the way.
