James George Barron

James George Barron, age 86 of Jonesboro, passed away at his home on September 1, 2024. 

Funeral services will be held at Scott’s Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2024, with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating. Interment will follow at Jonesboro Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Friday, September 6th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Barron was born in Lamesa, Texas in 1938, to the late James Francis and Alice Grace Barron. James graduated from high school in Post, Texas and then graduated from Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. He received his Master’s Degree in Education from Tarleton State University in Stephenville and taught school for a total of 34 years in the following school districts: Tulia, Mound, Turnersville, and Gatesville, where he retired. James was also a rancher in Jonesboro and won most of the battles with the cows and horses. 

James married Edith Marilyn Youngblood on August 24, 1958, in House, New Mexico and they remained married for 66 years. James and Edith started their family in Tulia before moving to Jonesboro circa 1965. where they put down permanent roots. James had a deep love for history and shared this love with his family and students. He had a genuine love for his students and tried to see them the way God would see them. James and his family were the first to bring Brangus cattle to the area, as featured on the Johnny Watkins television show. James loved the church and served as a pastor for a period of time at a church in Justiceburg, Texas. He will be remembered for his love for God and his family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles. 

James is survived by his wife, Edith Barron; children, Mike Barron, and wife Sonya, Dr. Kay Eaton and husband, Mark, Karen Williams and husband, Steve, Dr. Randall Barron and wife, Shelley; grandchildren, Leila Fincher, Dane Barron, Jamie Barron, Jeremy Eaton, William Eaton, Lucas Eaton, Lindsey Williams, Natalie Williams, Racheal Barron, Rylie Barron, Reese Barron, and Ryan Barron; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Frances Spencer and Diana Truett, and nieces and nephews.
