James L. Brock (Doc), age 79 of Valley Mills, passed away on May 9, 2019 in Gatesville. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Doc’s Farm 625 CR 259 Valley Mills, TX. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday May 14, 2019 at Scott’s Funeral Home.
Doc was born on September 22, 1939 in Valley Mills, to the late James Brock and Myrtle Lynch Brock. He grew up and attended school in Valley Mills, graduating as Valedictorian in 1958. After high school Doc attended several trade schools before obtaining his M.D. from University Texas Medical Branch, Galveston. He would use his degree in Central Texas for 25 years. During this time Doc obtained his pilot’s license and would fly himself and other Doctors into Mexico to provide much needed medical care. Doc was a member of the National Guard Reserves. This service took him to several locations, including Yemen, Turkey and Ethiopia. Doc was a promoter of the Volunteer Fire Dept. and was instrumental in getting the fire department started in Coryell City. Doc was an adventurous outdoorsman, who loved hunting, fishing, and tracking. He was a skilled marksman and archer, a lifetime member of the NRA, as well as an avid conservationist.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and aunt Opal Lynch.
James is survived by his sister, Janis Gayle Niswanger; cousins, Larry Lynch of Waco, Diane Lynch Herrington of Dripping Springs, Becky Sheffield of Dallas, Don Sheffield of OK, and Ronnie Sheffield of Sweetwater; nephews, Mark Niswanger of Granbury, Karl Niswanger of Austin, Kevin Niswanger of Valley Mills; nieces, Karen Austin of Weatherford, and Joyce Mitchell of CO.
