James (Jimmy) Hopkins

James (Jimmy) Hopkins, age 75, of Evant, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Scott’s Funeral Home.Jimmy was born on May 28, 1942 in Rose Hill, Virginia to the late Shirley and Rose McConnell Hopkins.  He grew up in Rose Hill, Virginia and married the love of his life, Joyce Hopper on August 27, 1960.  They moved to the Gatesville area in 1986, moving to Evant in the early 90’s.  He worked at M.A.T.E.S in maintenance, retiring in 2000.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on old Ford vehicles and being around his children and grandchildren.  He also loved sitting around singing and playing bluegrass music.  He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers.   Jimmy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Joyce Hopkins; four children, Melody Rutherford and husband, Jerry, Missy Winter, Melinda Rogers, and Timothy Hopkins and wife, Gina; sister, Jearleen Parker; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
