James White

James White, age 78 of Gatesville, passed away on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at his home.

Funeral services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Scott’s Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Loyd Hall officiating.  Private family interment will follow at Restland Cemetery.  The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

James Lynn White was born on September 19, 1943 in Gatesville.  He grew up in Gatesville and Houston.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served a year in Vietnam.  He was honorably discharged in 1967.  He married Shirley Jackson on November 21, 1968.  After their marriage, they resided in Bell County, moving to Gatesville in 1972.  He was a locksmith and worked at Ft. Hood as a civil service employee, retiring after 30 years of service.  He was a member of the Gatesville Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher and bus driver.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. White and Norma Turner Remington; brothers, Jerry White, William F. White, Jr., John White, Donnie White, Kenneth White; and sister, Helen White.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Shirley White; daughters, Marie White; Christy Martin; Suzanne Stroud and husband, Stephen; brother, Bill White and wife, Aline; sisters, Judy Demny and Betty Stefka; four grandchildren, Emery Martin, Leo Stroud, Liam Stroud and Caroline Stroud; one great-grandson, Dru Janisch; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gatesville Church of Christ, 2417 E. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
