Jean Howell

Leajeane Howell, age 81 of Gatesville, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2023, at Cornerstone Church, with Pastor Greg Demmitt and Mark Henson officiating.   Private inurnment will follow at Restland Cemetery.    

Leajeane Irene Howell was born to the late LeRoy and Goldie Wolfe Deal on March 28, 1941, in Baltimore, Maryland.  She graduated from Miami Jackson High School in Miami Florida in 1959 and moved back to Maryland to attend business school.  From there, she began her career at Baltimore Gas and Electric before moving to Nashville, Tennessee to accept a job with American Airlines.  In 1975, she moved back to Texas to help take care of her father, who became ill.  During that time, she accepted a job with Coryell County in the Auditor’s Office and worked there until her retirement in 2004. 

Jean was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a volunteer for the Gatesville Care Center.  In her spare time, she enjoyed cross-stitching, planting flowers, and spending time with her dog, Katy.  She had a special love for her family and friends, as well as her church family at Cornerstone Church. 

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sidney Howell; sister, Mary Ross; and brother, Lee Deal.
