Jerry Costigan

Gerald Lee Costigan, Sr., age 80 of Gatesville, passed away on November 25, 2024. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 4, at Scott's Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors following the service. 

Jerry was born on February 6, 1944, in Salem, Ohio to the late Aaron and Elizabeth Haggarty Costigan. 

Jerry was a proud American. He served in the United States Air Force from 1962 to 1982. After retiring from the military, Jerry worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) from 1983 to 1993. He was the proud owner of the Country Corner Store in Purmela from 1993 to 2006 and served on the Board of Directors of the Levita volunteer Fire Department in the late 1990’s. Jerry also served on the Board of Directors for the Coryell County Sherriff’s Posse from 2006 to 2016. Jerry worked hard and played hard, always the jokester. He was devoted to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed. 

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Richard and Tommy Costigan; sister, Christy Argo; and brothers-in-law, Travis Register and Darel Quinn. 

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Shirley Shipman Costigan; daughter, Mary Vazquez, and husband Rick; son, Gerald Costigan, Jr. and wife Tracy; sisters, Barbara Funderburg, Sharon Register and Denise Quinn; sisters-in-law, Beth Costigan, Susan Shipman Donahoo and husband Bo; brother-in-law Jay Argo; grandchildren, Vanessa, Victoria and Sam Vazquez and Courtney Costigan; great grandchildren, Liam, Christiano and Azalea; mother of his children, Linda Tackett Young and husband, Vaughn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
