Jerry Smith, age 83 of Nolanville, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Jonesboro Cemetery with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating.  

Jerry Pittman Smith was born on May 17, 1940 to the late Homer and Lucile Pittman Smith in Jonesboro, Texas.  He was the youngest of three children.  He grew up and attended school in Jonesboro, graduating Salutatorian of his class from Jonesboro High School in 1958.  After briefly attending Trinity University in San Antonio, he attended and received his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1962.   He spent the next several years working for an accounting firm in Dallas.  In 1965, he went to work for the United States Army Audit Agency, where he received many performance awards and commendations.  He also served as the Managing Auditor of the field offices at Ft. Riley, Kansas and Fort Hood, Texas.  He accepted assignments worldwide that included Germany, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iran, England, France, Egypt, Monaco, Morocco, Australia and Greece before ultimately retiring in 1995.  In 1998, he met the love of his life, Jamie Young and the couple settled down in Nolanville. Jerry loved the beach and was particularly fond of Randolf Scott movies.  Most of all though, he loved showing off his mustache.   

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Horace Smith; and sister, Bennie Hansson.

Jerry is survived by Jamie Young; niece, Luci Zahray; and a host of other nieces and nephews.   

In lieu of flowers, Jerry’s family request that memorials be made to the Coryell County Museum and Historical Center, P.O. Box 24, Gatesville, TX 76528.
