Jim Edd Snow, age 99 of Gatesville, passed away on March 10, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 11:00 am at Scott’s Funeral Home with Reverend Bobby Cole, Jr. officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gatesville. The family will receive visitors at Scott’s Funeral Home on Friday, March 14, from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Jim was born in Lincolnville, Texas on his family's farm where, in his early years, he learned various aspects of farming from his father and uncles. He worked at Camp Hood (later renamed Ft. Hood, then Ft. Cavazos) and helped build the forts bunkers, some of which are still in use today.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy in 1945 during World War II and was stationed at Monterey and Treasure Island, California. While in the Navy, he was awarded the American Area Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon.

After being honorably discharged at the end of the war, Jim made his way to Dallas where he gained employment at Southwestern Bell Telephone (now AT&T). He met and married Rubye Strong in Dallas. Together, they built a successful excavating and demolition company that featured work on many of the prominent buildings in the Dallas area. To this union, three children were born. Jim later married Alice Gray (d. 2025), and to this union one child was born.

Through the years, Jim worked to expand the farm he had grown up on, and after retiring he moved back to the farm in Gatesville. He loved working his cows and working the land and hanging out at the auction barn on Saturdays with other ranchers and cattlemen.

Jim could often be seen driving that familiar silver Dodge dually around town. Anybody who knew him knew he loved to carry on a conversation and never met a stranger. And if you happened to be a really close friend, you knew he could be fiercely bullheaded and comical all in the same conversation.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Tansy Snow; sisters, Carlene, Ollie Ray, and Alma Louise; and brothers, Roland, Billy and Carl Jr. He is survived by two sisters, Mamie Lee Snow and Evelyn Jean Taylor.

He leaves four children to cherish his memory; Donald (Cantrell), Karen (Wayne), Jim (Khadejah) and Jonathan (Jeysy); five grandchildren, Patrick, Donald Jr., Carl, Kain and Kayleen; three great-grandchildren, Parker, Beckham and Beaux: and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
