Jimmie Don Thompson

Jimmie Don Thompson, age 80 of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2024.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Dossey officiating.  Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery.  Jimmie Don’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jimmie Don Thompson was born on August 02, 1943 to the late J. H. and Lorene Thompson in Hamilton, Texas.  He grew up in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1961. He obtained a masters degree from the University of North Texas in Denton. Jimmie Don worked at the State School for Boys early in his career and then worked as a probation officer in Coryell County for 35 years, later becoming Chief Probation Officer. He served as an Army Reservist during Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia, serving our country for 35 years.

Jimmie Don loved sports and played softball in the local area well into his 50’s. He enjoyed going dancing with his wife, Barbara. Kids, grandkids and friends loved hanging out at Mamaw and Papaw’s house.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Jimmie Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons, Kyle Thompson and wife Kari; Ronnie Herbelin and wife, Liz; Ricky Herbelin and wife, Susie; daughter, Sherri Bone; grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Garrett, Tiffany, Patrick, Katy, and Jonathan; great grandchildren, Kason, Derek, Layton, and Blakely; brother, Tommy Wayne Thompson; and sisters; Pam Jones, Kellie Thompson- Billingsley and Lea Ann Rea.
